Level 1 Why are they doing releasing this in America 4 months after its international release? level 2 Is Playmobil even that popular with children in North America? I always thought it was more of a European thing level 2 Because STX ran out of cash and (wisely) decided to push the rest of their slate back and put everything they had left into marketing Hustlers level 2 (1) The rights for Playmobil international were sold a long time again and up to their partners, while the decision to push its domestic release was relatively recent. (2)They delayed Playmobil domestic release to push Hustlers front, they do not have the cash on hand to launch 2 films simultaneously anymore. Seemed like the right move if Hustlers become their biggest hit. level 1 Why, STX, why? I hope Dan Radcliffe gets a lot of money from this, if not reputation. level 2 Has STX releases anything good yet? Still waiting. level 1 I found out that "Playmobil" had already released in some foreign markets, and so far it has only grossed 9. 3 million from those territories. However, I wasn't too surprised about the film's poor performance so far, given its failure to attract much attention from the family crowd in the first place. level 2 Yeah it was released a couple weeks ago here in Indonesia. At some point i heard lego movie was inspired by the lego movie. Disappointing but honest not very surprising. At least Barbie has had a series of movies and animated specials in the past, so giving her a movie isn't too out of the ordinary, something LEGO also had going for it as a series of parodies. I actually expected that's what the LEGO Movie was going to do but it went in a different direction that worked for it but not so much Batman and Ninjago. Especially Ninjago since there already was a series on Nickelodeon based on that line and it appeared to me in the trailers that they ignored that continuity just as the LEGO DC movies were also ignored.

Adam Lambert is voicing the villain Emperor Maximus, and though we don't hear her speak we get a glimpse of Meghan Trainor as the Fairy Godmother at 1:25. Supposedly both are singing original songs in the film. This is the "official trailer" and it's rather odd because the teaser trailer they dropped late last year shows us a bit more of the film and this version completely omits that this film is about a human character who gets sucked into the Playmobil world and must find her brother. The movie out August 30th.

The primary problem with this film's concept for me (having only seen the trailers) is a lack of iconography. LEGO has ton of well known (at least to its fanbase) and interesting original characters under it's belt, like Johnny Thunder, Lloyd Garmadon, the Classic Spacemen. In addition they've got a ton of notable licensed charactes like Gandalf, Batman, and Han Solo. With The LEGO Movie they managed to weave in tons of background characters and easter eggs so that both hardcore LEGO Fans and casual cinema viewers could catch something that related to them. But Playmobile, as far as I know, doesn't really do that. Much like LEGO's original Town theme, Playmobile doesn't really go for iconography with its characters. They're designed to be generic and basic and (dare I say it? bland. When TLM came out I saw tons of people freaking out over oh my god its the Series 2 Vampire or oh look its those weird 2002 basketball figs or did you catch that? It was the Toa Mata! I don't know if this could match that level of hidden references. One would argue that goes against the product placement point, but most of the easter eggs in TLM were from long retired products, acting more as nostalgia than advertisements. Of course, all of this is coming from someone who's been following LEGO for 12 years and never touched Playmobile so maybe I'm just underplaying their character designs.

They'll change one. They delayed Playmobil as they do not have funds on hand to launch both Playmobil and Hustlers in a short time frame. (The life of a mini-major. They made the right decision to go with Hustlers, though all that money and good will is already thrown down the drain with the 75M Playmobil. To be clear, Hustlers was an unplanned 'god-send' to them when Annapurna had to drop the project going bankrupt. But this showed how precarious STX's cash position was prior to Hustlers. Still very much 1 bomb away from bankruptcy.
